Why AireWharfe?

Population Coverage

Population Coverage

Aire Wharfe DAB covers South Craven, Worth Valley and Wharfedale, providing local digital radio services across key towns and rural communities in North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.

This multiplex is designed to serve areas that are often difficult to reach with larger regional DAB networks due to challenging terrain and lower population density.

The coverage area includes a mix of market towns, commuter towns and Yorkshire Dales communities, delivering targeted local broadcasting to listeners and businesses across the region.

Population Coverage

Based on the multiplex design, Aire Wharfe DAB is focused around three primary towns:

  • Skipton
  • Keighley
  • Ilkley

These locations form the core of the transmission network, ensuring strong coverage in the main population centres while extending service into surrounding villages and rural areas.

The Aire Wharfe region combines historic market towns, tourism hotspots and commuter locations across the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding districts.

From the cultural heritage of Skipton and Haworth, to the thriving town centres of Ilkley and Otley, the area offers a diverse audience base for radio broadcasters.

Topographically, the region includes valleys and elevated terrain, which can limit coverage from larger multiplexes — making small-scale DAB a practical and effective solution for local digital broadcasting.

Based on our predicted coverage plot AIREWHARFE DAB will provide a multiplex service to 100,000 adults residing in and travelling across the area
